Healing with Color Light Therapy

Healing with Color Light Therapy reveals another way of using alternative and natural medicine to heal oneself from sickness and disease.  Research and studies have begun to show how light is essential to one’s health and well-being.   Just think about it the DNA within the nucleus of each cell of the body has been shown to emit light.

And now that the human body can be seen in 3D one can see the unique colors and light energy flowing throughout one’s being.  Light Therapy is a form of vibrational medicine that uses light on the eyes, acupuncture points, chakras, meridians, reflex zones, and etc. to communicate the proper frequency for restoring health to the body and electromagnetic field.

Color therapy is a set of principles used to create harmonious color and color combinations for healing. The term color therapy sometimes referred to as color healing or chromotherapy is based on the belief that the human body is composed of energy fields and when the energy is properly distributed and circulating freely, the body is healthy.   Imbalances or abnormal amounts of energy are believed to indicate an excess or deficiency that contributes to illness and or dis-ease of the body. Certain color combinations can provide the energy vibration that your body needs in order to improve and balance your physical and or emotional state.

When light enters through the eyes or the skin it travels neurological pathways to the pineal glands. Different colors give off different wavelengths of energy and have different effects on physical and psychological functions. It is believed that exposing the body to colored light can aid in healing. Yellow light is believed to can assist in healing gall stones, hypoglycemia and muscle cramps. Blue is used to treat ulcer pain, inflammatory disorders and back problems, while heart problems and cancer are believed to be helped via exposure to green light. Exposure to red light helps treat anemia, bladder infection, and skin problems while orange light assists in healing allergies and constipation.

The Seven Chakras or Energy Centers of the Body

If you are familiar with the seven chakras (major ayurvedic energy centers) within the body, then you will notice that the light and the areas of healing somewhat coincides with those colors. I’m in the process of learning about the body’s chakras and how they react to the stimuli of certain sounds and colors.

This year as I've been learning about chakras and attempting to mediate with music, I've experimented with looking at different colors and it does seem to work. I've been able to ease an upset stomach, as well as relieve a headache this way. As I learn more on this unique journey of discovery I will gladly share the information. Below is a basic chart that describes the locations of the seven chakras colors. In the next section see how the color light therapy and the chakras go hand in hand.

Colors that Can Heal

Modern man is sick because he is not whole… - Carl Gustav Jung

Here’s examples of how color therapy has been put into practice; let's look at specific colors and their proven effects.

Blue: Calming, decreases respiration, and lowers blood pressure. Blue is cooling, electric, and astringent. Healing properties: Cools down inflammations (including rheumatic inflammations), calms strong emotions like anger, aggression or hysteria, fever, high blood pressure, stops bleedings, and relieves bursting headaches.

Green: Assists in reducing anxiety, helps those suffering with depression, nervousness, relaxing mentally, as well as physically, and soothing. Healing properties: Green is the color of Nature and the earth. It represents balance and harmony in essence and possesses a soothing influence upon both mind and body; therefore it can be used for just about any condition requiring healing.

Orange: Energizes, stimulates appetite and digestive system. Healing properties: Orange is warm, cheering, non-constricting; which has a freeing action upon the body and mind, relieving repressions.

Pink: An appetite suppressant used in diet therapy, relaxes muscles, relieves tension, and soothing, often times used in hospitals. Healing properties: Heals grief and sadness, restores youthfulness, and brings you in contact with your feelings.

Red: Excites sexual glands, increases heart rate, respirations and blood pressure, and stimulates brain wave activity as well as your appetite. Healing properties: Brings energy, stimulation, and warmth therefore is good for energy, fatigue, colds, chilly and passive people.

Violet: Good for migraines, provides a peaceful environment, and suppresses appetite. Healing properties: Being a color of transformation that heals hysteria, delusions and alcohol addiction, melancholy, and bring spiritual insights and renewal.

Yellow: energizes, improves memory, relieves depression, and stimulates appetite. Healing properties: Yellow helps strengthen the nerves and the mind, helps awaken mental inspiration, stimulates higher mentality, and energizes muscles.

Color therapy can be practiced either with colored light or color pigments such as paints or swatches.

Other Hubbers’ Info on Color Therapy

While this hub was written to reveal the healing power of color light therapy, there is not enough time to really explain the entire spectrum of what color therapy can do for one’s body. There are some other great hubs on color therapy and I have listed three of my favorites.

Buy Color Therapy Glasses

Color Therapy Glasses Set
Amazon Price: $109.95

Color Therapy Glasses

Color therapy glasses offer a unique and trendy way to incorporate color therapy into you life. Simply put on a pair of glasses and get instant color therapy.

For instance if you need to overcome negative thoughts, then wear your red pair of glasses. Wear the yellow pair of glasses on the days you need intellectual clarity and wear the blue ones on stressful days in order to remain calm.

Blue Light Therapy

You may have heard discussions about blue light therapy, since it has become very popular for many reasons. It is believed that blue light therapy aimed on the pores and skin can heal acne breakouts as well as jaundice.

It is also used to deal with circadian rhythm disorders like delayed sleep stage syndrome and also can be utilized to manage seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Be sure to read my hub, HolisticTreatments for Seasonal Depression.

Oregon Scientific - i.relax Aroma Diffuser

Oregon Scientific - i.relax Aroma Diffuser

Today’s modern world is fast paced and can keep the mind and body always under different mental and physical stress. To help you sleep better, combat stress, relax your mind, and assist in healing other health problems; Oregon Scientific has created a unique product that provides a natural pleasant environment by aromatherapy, light therapy, and sound  to assist in making your stress will dissipate as your senses are invigorated.

I saw this product on Amazon and it is what inspired me to research and write this hub. Needless to say it is on my Christmas list for Santa this year. Using the i-relax along with one of the therapeutic essential oils that I’ve revealed on my hub for Holistic Healing Benefits of Therapeutic Essential Oils can assist in regenerating one’s body back to a wellness state of health. The i-relax is like getting a triple dose of natural medicine to assist balancing an individual’s mind, body, and spirit.

Ending Note:

Color therapists treat individuals for symptoms such as addictions, allergies, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, sleep deprivation, and stomach problems. As with any alternative and natural medicine you should consult with a color therapist or another specialist in natural healing in order to get the most benefit from color therapy if you are seeking to heal a certain ailment.

However, if you are seeking to self-treat yourself for minor problems just to have an overall sense of well-being then these products will provide you with a new found adventure as you continue to seek a healthy lifestyle. This concludes Healing with Color Light Therapy, I hope you have for the information both useful and interesting.  Please feel free to leave comments below.

Nicely laid out hub, and interesting. I haven't heard of the type of therapy you are writing about, but in the 70s all the pediatrician were recommending pastels in rooms to calm infants and toddlers. I always decorated my daughters room in marshmallow pink. Now my room is light blue, spring green and white. I love it because it makes me feel content, and rested.

Light therapy really does work. I have used a light and sound combination device to put me to sleep every night.

@ I Wonder - Why would anyone be impressed by words from someone who has obviously not done any research. Everyone has an opinion on what works and what doesn't; most of it depends on your positive or negative outlook on life.

If you research glitches you will learn that depending on the circumstance that just like light, it can be positive or negative. Mine chooses to be posiitive. :)

Slightly off topic but here is an example of how colors can effect your mood. Just imagine yourself in a city, surrounded by a grey and bleak looking concrete jungle with dull colors as far as you can see on an overcast day, now imagine yourself on a tropical island oasis with a clear blue sky and crystal clear water and pure white sandy beaches.

Just the thought of the second one brightens my mood and its all to do with the nice colors really.

This is interesting. I've never really read/heard much about light/colors. One thing I do know is that I have to spend my days exposed to too much of the wrong kind of light, and - really - it is seriously, seriously, affecting my ability to feel a sense of well-being and calm down.

Glassy profile image

Glassy 20 months ago

Yes being exposed to bright lights like a florescent light right before your bedtime can effect the way you sleep and throw out your sleep patterns and if you try to sleep with the light on all night then you might not get any sleep at all.

Light really does effect the way the brain works and has a direct effect on the brain's natural sleeping chemical - melatonin.

Very well researched and presented. I provide Photon Therapy for small group of clients. I find the colors have been very well represented and each have their own imprint on healing. Healing occurs on so many levels, we are only beginning to learn our Energetic Bodies are a part of Us. I find clients with Cancer and that have undergone chemo/radiation treatments are energetically deprived. Their basic cells are calling out for healing to restore what has been depleted. Surrounding ourselves with colors that we resonate to, should be incorporated into our home environment. Create Your Own Sacred Space to revitalize on a cellular level. We usually don't think about these things, yet we gravitate to what our body needs. Very Good Information and Awesome Responses!

This is amazing information and i will pour over it again soon. I believe I could well be a distance light healer but this is intuitive not learned and seeing this article shows me i have a lot to learn. a few years back I pictured a friend in need, health wise in colour, no real surprise there as an artist i see everyone in colour, but i poured on the rainbow light, placed her in a light bubble and then later I heard she was getting better! superb but I didn't think it was me as such....then a few months back a similar thing happened and it appeared similar healing took place but pah ! not me.....then I heard of someone three weeks ago who i was told 'died' i knew him but not overly well but immediately i felt the huge wave of grief and i thought...this can't happen, the family needs help so i placed them all in my mind and drew over the rainbow weaves and placed them in a bubble of rainbow light....i did this constantly for a few days and everytime i saw black i forced rainbow light through then i heard in 'real life' the man lived...so i decided right i gotta do something more so i said to God, "ok I'm gonna see if I'm a healer, so if he lives I'll take that as my sign I am!" it was a tall order but I felt completely guided and safe. I concentrated on the heart and also removed the blood and poured in rainbow light, every time i checked in on him (energetically I never visited the hospital)i could see him smiling i knew he was getting better but knew it was touch and go for a while. then I started to get ill feelings too like flue and indigestion so i asked "what's going wrong?" i was told 'nothing except you are taking it all on and not passing it on,' I asked who do i pass it on too? i was told "God of course silly!" so I then made sure that whatever i saw, felt, imagined I passed up to the Universe. But I knew I was out of my depth and so I asked for help, and immediately there were 4 other energy beings with me and we all held hands and floated above the guy and radiated light over him. Then one day I was asked to hold his head

the minute i did grey/black mercury liquid passed up my hands/arms/head and out within seconds..i tried to re visit but i was told it's ok you've done enough, he's healed....I wasn't sure but since that moment I couldn't 'see him' in my mind then today I saw his wife for the first time and she cried as she told me, he lives and is moving to a normal ward..............I cried too...amazing but I made sure she knew there were at least 5 of us working for at least 3 weeks. So now I'm thinking wow...what do I do with this?? I'm in the process of learning and reflecting

@Jennie D –Great idea of putting the video up on the tv screen that should be very relaxing. I’ve created my own color slide presentation, but had not thought about putting it on the big screen. Again, excellent idea and thank you for stopping by for a read and commenting. :)

@RoughOutline – Thanks for the kind compliment. :)

@Ramzeed – One’s chakras and the therapy that light and color generates within these areas are amazing and I too am learning more about chakras and the power from within. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)

Money Glitch profile image

Money Glitch Hub Author 9 months ago

@joekreydt - Yes, it works if you allow it to work for you. Will you look at a certain color and instantly get rid of a headache, upset stomach, etc? Absolute Not! However, if you take some time to read and learn more about this time of healing, and learn to relax and meditate; I think an individual can find out that it works. Personally, I’ve experienced relief from headaches, stomach aches, and having “the blues” by using color light therapy as the healing method. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)

@Aimee Cherie – Hi Aimee, thanks for stopping by. :)

@Jo_Goldsmith – Hi Jo, hhhhmmm, thanks for providing that Biblical insight. It kind of coincides with a passage I read a few days ago; “wisdom will come to an individual that is willing to sit or lie still and listen.” Thanks for sharing your insight. :)

The doctor was unable to provide relief from a recent gout flair so I tried the blue light therapy on the advice of this hub. Call it luck or the placebo effect if you want, but after six weeks on medications and no reduction in swelling or pain, I tried the blue light for an hour or so each night as I watched TV and three days later I am back to myself. I would still consult a doctor, too. But from now on, gout gets the blue light.

Very interesting. Now that I think about it you see in different food restaurants the colors that make you want to eat. How amazing. I enjoyed reading each color and reading what each one does for your body. As a person who gets migraines very frequently it was helpful information to read about the color violet. Nice hub. @KeithTax – Really appreciate that you shared your experience with color light therapy. I too have had success in using light and colors to ease certain aliments. I agree a doctor should always be consulted prior to eliminating any medications, but isn’t it great to find something that can’t hurt you to improve your overall wellbeing. Thanks for stopping by. :)

@LittlePayday – Thanks for the reading and commenting. :)

@AllSuretyBonds – I agree it is interesting to see the different colors in food restaurants that make you hungry and feel at home. Studies have even been done to verify which colors work best for certain restaurants. Thanks for the comments and get well wishes if you decide to add the color violet to your décor and or wardrobe. :)

@dallas93444 – I agree that ones perception does definitely affect ones outcome. Thanks for commenting. Namaste’
