Venturing Out for the Halloween Festivities

How to Use Essential Oils for Halloween will start with what normally happens when one ventures out for the holiday festivities. Most are prone to getting bitten by blood-sucking critters….thankfully NOT vampires, bats or other fanciful Halloween creatures! No the critters I’m speaking of are those nasty mosquitoes that are out for your blood and to ruin your evening if you’re allergic to them. Well, remember the Neem Oil from the ‘miracle tree’ that I wrote about in the hub titled Therapeutic Essential Oils and Healing that will keep them from biting.

However, if you’ve left the house without putting it on here is a remedy to assist in healing your wounds quickly. To prevent infection and will not sting not burn open cuts, wounds, nor bites; use 4-6 drops of Young Living Essential Oils ‘Melrose’ blend (Melaleuca / Tea Tree and Rosemary). After a few hours if the welts have not diminished, apply several drops of 100% undiluted German Chamomile therapeutic essential oil for its powerful anti-inflammatory compounds. Do not confuse the German chamomile with the Roman chamomile which is milder and a sedative. You can reapply the German chamomile before bedtime if the mosquito bites are still burning, stinging, or draining fluid. O.k. now that I’ve given you some natural essential oils for small medical emergencies. Let’s have a party!

Essential Oils for Halloween Treats and Treats

On October 31st each year the witches and spooks are said to have their day. Children love dressing up, playing games, and having Halloween parties. Such activities usually lead to lots of laughs and squeals of delight. For the magic special cakes and biscuits made by the little witches, one can simply add a small amount of flavorings (like cinnamon, geranium, or sandalwood) to one of your favorite recipes. Make sure that you are using natural (i.e. therapeutic, organic, pure) essential oils for anything that will be eaten.

To have fun with the traditional Halloween activities of trick or treat one can add a show of drama and magic to the bobbling for apples game. Get a piece of charcoal (the type sold in specialty stores that stock burning incense). Take a heat resistant bowl, light the charcoal, once it is beginning to glow add a couple drops of your favorite essential oils (i.e. patchouli, benzoin, cedarwood, or any other of the smells of the woods) and watch the billows of aromatic smoke rise into the atmosphere.

You might want to try to lighten up these smells with a little melissa or verbena. This should impress all the little witches, warlocks, goblins, princes and princesses alike. And mom’s if you really want to play it smart use a calming essential oil to counter act some of the sugar these little darlings have ingested.

More Essential Oils Halloween Tricks or Treats

Want to make a grand entrance and be the highlight of the show, then dress up as the head witch or grand dragon knocking at the door bringing in rue or myrtle. Then too really chase and scare the Halloween party away, use frankincense. With adequate adult supervision, candles can be used to magically enhance your Halloween decorations.

Enhance the mood by adding cedarwood , galbanum, or some other deep and mysterious aromatic. And here’s a great trick you might want to save just for the head witch’s broom; soaked the twigs first in a strong woody smell like pine, cypress, or a rooty aroma like vetiver.

As a finale to really surprise all your little guests present them with a smaller version of the witch’s broom to take home as a souvenir. Author Valerie Ann Worwood suggests the following essential oils for Halloween: benzoin, cedarwood, cypress, galbanum, mandarin, melissa, orange, patchouli, pine, sandalwood, and vetiver. Be sure to check out her book The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy for more ideals like the ones above and to learn more about the essential oils listed.

After the Kids’ Party

O.k. now that it’s time to put the kids to bed and they are high on Halloween festivities and tons of candy and other goodies; so now what you may ask. Well this is the opportune time to discover just how wonderful therapeutic essential oils can be. Take your little precious ones, place them in a nice bath to wash away all the paint and grime while relaxing them and getting them ready for bed and a good night’s sleep.

Follow the directions in the above video to make bath bombs. Mix 2 drops lavender and l drop each of orange and chamomile equalizing to the amount of oil suggested in the video. When the bath begins to fizz this will be the highlight of their evening. And should be enough to assist them in falling to sleep rather quickly since they are already exhausted.

No Kids but Want a Romantic Evening

Using essential oils in your romantic repertoire is not only enjoyable but also easy to do. Here’s some simple ways to use them (note that unless under the guidance of a trained healthcare practitioner, essential oils should not be taken by the mouth):

Massage oil: Aromatherapy can enhance intimacy by promoting benefits of a couple’s massage. Add a few drops to several ounces of your favorite carrier oil, whether its avocado, jojoba, almond, or etc. Ask your partner where they would like for you to begin; head, neck, shoulders, and well you get the picture.

Perfume: If you are sensitive to fragranced perfume you may be able to use natural essential oils. Test oils on your arms prior to that special night; once you know it is safe to use (no allergic reactions) anoint you and/or your lover’s body with aromatics. If an individual is sensitive to oils applied directly to their skin, try mixing a drop or two of essence with several drops of carrier oil before using.

Room spray: Surround the room with sensuous scents by adding a few drops of oil to a mister bottle filled with water. Spray the space and your linens and become more appealing.

Bath: Amplify the romance of a bath by infusing it with fragrance. This can be done by mixing a few drops of essential oil with Epsom salts and then add to the water. The salts will help the oil to disperse easily.

The DO NOTs to Remember

NEVER use basic cooking oils (i.e. canola or corn) in place of real base oil. Cooking oils are not as good for your skin; they feel pretty slimy and can clog your pores.

All essential oils should be diluted in carrier oil (usually called the base oil in recipes). Sweet almond oil can be used as a carrier but if you’re allergic to nuts try apricot or jojoba oil instead. Always choose a light carrier oil that won’t clog your pores. If you like extra olive oil can be used as carrier oil; it is high in nutritional value with lots of health benefits.

Although you have purchased natural essential oils keep them out of the reach of children. Kids will love how essential oils smell, especially the ones like peppermint, vanilla, and cinnamon that smell like candy or fruit. So you should treat essential oils like any other medication or household product, and call poison control if it is ingested by a child.

Oils to avoid using if pregnant: bitter almond, basil, clary sage, clove bud, hyssop, sweet fennel, juniper berry, marjoram, myrrh, peppermint, rose, rosemary, sage, thyme, and wintergreen.

General How Tos for Using Therapeutic Essential Oils

Conclusion

And this concludes How to Use Essential Oils for Halloween, now you can plan to have an evening of fun for the kids, partying for everyone, and a wonderful night’s rest afterward all the parties are over.

Hey, who are you calling fanciful? I'm a Humagaia and I take exception to that. I am real. I know I am.

If you are going out this Hallowe'en I suggest, if you are reading this and know how scary I can be, you should ensue that you have as many repellent essential oils as you can muster (or is that muskoil?).

And I do bite! Much worse than a vampires, bats or all those other fanciful Halloween creatures (that are not me).
